Bio
HPS was the final stop after a sequence of many schools in many cities – story of most ‘Army brats’. HPS brought some kind of joy and stability and best of memories where I experienced being both a day scholar and a boarder. Starting in 1966, my day scholar days included travelling in the Army truck from Bolarum/Trimulgherry, and later as a boarder in West Wing (8 bedders/4 bedders) imbibed the essence lot of what HPS was all about. Much richer as a result of that.
School has meant a lot to me:
- It meant basking in the camaraderie which had stood the test of time: all of you are testimony to that - proven year after year, decade after decade. Five decades in all!! How many can proclaim: my friends go back over 50 years?
- It meant fantastic teachers like Mr. Tiwari/Mr. Bray/Mr. S. W. Chandrashekar -House Masters, Teachers and most important quality to me -Friends. Each a unique personality and even today bring a smile back just thinking about them
- It meant watching cricket, lounging lazily in the shade of one of those gigantic rock formations, watching the school team play with the Begumpet airport providing a unique backdrop
- It meant happy years in The School Band. Learning music from Mr. Rajaiah, the most talented musician I met up to then, special tea, and bunking morning PT thanks to being a Band Member!!
- Experiencing train travel from Hyderabad to Surat with friends accompanying me to Mumbai and then the frightful cross over from VT to Bombay Central Station (was just 13 when I did it first). Boy! Did I grow up!
- It meant great food, being exposed to all games, participating in Dramatics, Entertainment, rushing to the library to lay my hands on the latest Biggles book, etc. etc.
Family
- Despite of father’s efforts in trying to make an Engineer out of me, I wandered into Economics in Pune (@Gokhale Institute), and an A (here is where I met my wife, Shubha, who learned to endure not just me, but a nomadic way of life), and joined the Hi-Tech Industry (Olivetti, Sun, Motorola, TCS America) which took me all over the world, created homes in Africa, Silicon Valley and of course, India. Had a blast everywhere I went, but Africa carved a special place for my family and me. Was blessed with a tight network of friends globally – never a place where I could not meet one.
- Have two lovely girls to dote over in Aditi, the elder one (doing her Ph.D at UCLA) and Aarati (managing CSR for a large US fintech company in Bangalore). Shubha and I now have retired into Pune and live in our cottage in lush green surroundings and have a home which will welcome all of you who happen to venture into my neck of the woods. Food and drinks and a good chat dripping with nostalgia is guaranteed.
So come over! And celebrate!
